Glad you enjoyed it.

Hey! I've recently finished my remix of Justin Bieber's Sorry and would love feedback on it from people who aren't a fan of my remix.

Hey Justin quick question, ive always had trouble using GTi on my supersaws, I feel like it always cuts the lows and boosts the mids in strange ways when I use it, are there any specific parameters or presets that you would recommend to get me started?

Getting to know the 5 guitar types of presets helps more than anything. The manual ("?" in the top right) does an ok job of explaining what they do. Heavy definitely removes more of the lows and mids compared to clean. The others include a little to much chorus for my liking. Pre and Post EQ, multiband compression after GTi can help you craft the sounds youre looking for. Layering with other synths not processed with GTi helps as well.

Crowd noises. Volume automating a crowd cheering instead of white noise.

On top of art and nature, relationships. Trying to recreate an emotion you have with a relationship with family, friends, significant other, people you party with, etc. influences what I do.

Deadlines are the most effective when you don't procrastinate. It's too easy to set a deadline then put off working on something only to be crunched with time for your deadline.

Not having a deadline for yourself allows you to tinker and make changes. If I don't have a deadline, the total length of time it takes me to make a track gets an additional 20-30 hours, just with me messing around with things that really dont need to be messed around with (this just ends up causing frustration too).

Wouldn't this separate the forum into people who are on the IRC vs people posting here?

This Wayfarer supersaw is also spot on, please explain how you made it!

i used one simple sylenth layer w 3 supersaw oscilators , procesed to some compression, stereo enhancer, eq and reverb, make sure u got those full chords

That's accomplishing a lot with just one layer. I'd bet the bass is doing most of the work to create the fullness in the track.

this type of project, you dont wait to the end to mix everything. It's definitely an "as you go" type of process.

A lot of people are going to agree with you, but I'd also like to add that my producer friends inspire me. Some are better than me, some I'm better than, but having people you can talk to about production can inspire creativity.

I like to listen to music that I know will inspire me. I've got a playlist of songs that I make when I'm feeling inspired for the times I'm not feeling that motivated. Most of the time when I'm not feeling that motivated I end up trying to recreate sounds or songs. That way you accomplish something and there's a concrete goal in front of you to accomplish (pretty much becomes a video game for me at that point).

Some of these projects may be hard to find because I title my work horribly, so it may be difficult to give full details for some things but I'm pretty sure I have most of these projects.

Curious how you did the Alesso rolling bass in this https://soundcloud.com/murtaghrandom/the-lead-sucks-but-the-bass-is-decent

Britannica is a great song! I love that supersaw, would be great to get some pointers. Was it all one synth or did you layer it?

Okay I'll break this down as much as I can. Feel free to ask me anything if it's unclear

The Pluck

Pretty basic design wise. Resonance gives the characteristic roundness to the pluck. I used soundgoodizer since it works. Why not right? If youre using something other than FL, it's just multiband compression

The Super Saws

It's all about the layers. I basically try to emulate Audien when I'm using supersaws which means Maserati GTi. To be honest, these are all to taste for the song. Layering is really specific to the notes youre playing and the sound you want.

Layer 1:   https://clyp.it/0jquhvbl

Layer 2: https://clyp.it/2oied3md

Layer 3: https://clyp.it/pfbo2diy
Same patch as the pluck just the filter is "open"

Layer 4: The piano. Typically what Audien does is include a multiband compressed piano as a layer that doesnt stand out but serves basically 2 roles: Adding transients to the saw and filling up space in the freq. This piano doesnt really do the second that much but i dont think it really needs to. Again, this is to taste.

The Reverb

Route your say layers to your master and then to a second channel. This is going to be your reverb channel. What ever reverb you're using, set it to 100% wet, high pass it, and then create an automation clip. You can see my clip in the middle of the first picture. Automating the volume of the reverb gives that sweeping effect that's pretty common in a lot of tracks (Mat uses it in Bipolar)

I've been doing this for almost 3 years. Here's the best advice I can give to people starting out that truly want to learn.

You can, and should strive to, be better.
This is my Golden Rule of everything I do in life that matters to me -- from production, to relationships, to medical school, to anything I care about. Becoming content with what you're doing or your skill level leads to stagnation. There's no finish line in this, only stepping stone goals you set along the way if you choose so. Want to get better? Admit you can improve and figure out how to.

Connect with people
Forums and reddit are great but I improved the most when I joined a group chat of people who, like me, wanted to improve. These are people I've talked to every day for the last 2 years and are pretty good friends. Don't be afraid to reach out to people on soundcloud/twitter/Facebook. Like a sound from a track? Message the artist. Is deadmau5 going to tell you how he did something? Most likely not, but who knows? He could. I reached out to a very well known artist (he's on this forum) several months ago and said I was going to be in the same city as he was and wanted to meet up and talk production. He agreed to meet up for a half hour or so. We ended up sitting in a Starbucks for nearly 4 hours talking about music/production/the industry. That's an experience you want to have and the only way you're going to get it is by connecting with people. Guess what he said was the most valuable experience he's had? Reaching out to an artist he looked up to.

Listen
The obvious, not-so-obvious, broad-spectrum piece of advice. Listen to fans. Listen to haters. Listen to what your friends and family have to say about your music. Listen to yourself. Try sitting down with one other person and play one of your songs for them. If you're not cringing, you're not being self-critical enough. Listen to music you love. Why do you love it? Figure that out. Listen to music you hate. Why do you hate it? Listen to people who are better than you. What makes them better? Listen to people who are worse than you. There's stuff you can learn from everyone, regardless of skill -- even if it's how not to do something. Listen to your sounds. Listen to your sample selections. Listen to your progressions. Listen to your arrangement. Listen to your melodies. Listen to everything. Fucking Listen.
