Finished Tracks / Re: Aliasane - Fernway | Deep House

This isn't that bad!!

Yes, there's missing some bottom end. The bassline needs to be fattened.

I like the minimal approach although the arrangement needs something extra before the voices come in, maybe something like filter-automated white noise.

Thanks! You mean like a build up using white noise?

I wouldn't call it "failing miserably" -- it's not bad at all. But you asked for feedback so:

- The low end seems weak. The kick in particular has a nice "click" but really needs a low-end thump. You could layer a sub bass over the bass, and maybe distort or saturate the bass a bit to give it more presence.

- Some of the mixing seems off, the little 3-note melody gets too loud sometimes and overwhelms the mix (like at 3:30).

- The vocal samples sound grating and too loud sometimes. (2:10, 3:05)

- The whole thing needs more reverb, and I think mixing with some reverb and frequency cuts would help the issue with the high melody and the vocals.

- Arrangement: I like the slow buildup although it needs some subtle things going on at the beginning. I like the break at 2:25 although it's really simple. Since the track continues with the same melodies for 3 minutes after that, I think it needs a change or another break.

I'll answer specific questions if you have an idea of what's wrong... I like the basic groove and melody, though. It's kind of a chilled deep house vibe, like something for the end of a DJ set. With some minor mixing work it could be great.

I really appreciate the feedback!! Yeah what I meant by failing miserably was with the mixing and mastering. I struggle a lot much with it—to the point of frustration. That's definitely where I need a lot of guidance. Going to make adjustments to the vocals and the melody as per your feedback and work my way from there.

Thanks for the feedback!

Which kick did u think was too loud? In the intro or in the main parts? I think they're both a bit too loud.

You're welcome!  :) Yeah, I agree, both are too loud.

I completed this track approximately 11 months ago. I'm almost certain I know where I am failing miserably but would appreciate any and all harsh feedback before pointing it out. Thanks in advance!!

Your drum programming is superb, but the samples themselves sound too "stock". I would suggest sprucing them up with some effects (compression, distortion, tube, tape, etc). Something that turns them into your own signature sound. Really really good nonetheless.

Working on variation with the melody is something i definitely will do, it get´s kinda repetitive i suppose.
not totally sure what to do though...

You can add additional layers by means of send effects. Delays or the occasional sustained reverbs. You can also make it less repetitive with additional percussion samples and drum rolls. Certainly off to a good start though.

This is pretty good. The vocals need to be lowered and the drums raised a bit. I also feel you need a nice bass kick to fill up the track overall aswell as give the drums that punch I find myself desiring while listening to this track.

Gotta rework the intro as it's too abrupt in my opinion. You can definitely lower the kick drum and I'm not feeling the long release on the lead with the slow LFO modulation. Not sure if that is the correct way to describe it but it's the focal point during the breakdown at around 2:10 mark. I think that is holding the overall track back. It's sounds really good when it's all together after that breakdown—I agree it's a track worth not giving up on.
