The majority of our customer comments are overwhelmingly positive for Leviathan (check out some of the youtube comments = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-poQqK-q0s).  It is also a great feeling when we come across many tracks in the Beatport charts using the pack.  We do appreciate and listen to all the critical criticism above and use it to strive to always improve in future packs.

Some sounds actually end in non-zero samples, resulting in clicks (see attached picture) - makes me wonder if they even listened to what they made.

Apparently you have an early version of the pack, and for the clicks we sincerely apologize.  Those clicks had all been fixed before release but for some reason one of the zip files never got updated.  Do you remember where you purchased the pack?  If anybody has a version of the pack with clicks please email our support with you receipt of purchase and we will set you up with the updated pack that has all of these fixed.

One of the many issues with creating a pack this size is the countless revisions, batch processes, renaming etc creates a lot of room for error.  Not making any excuses - just explaining what happened.

Try the Bingoshakerz Free label sampler available at www.blackoctopus-sound.com/free-downloads

If you like those you might want to consider picking up the deep vocal or tech vocals pack from them.

Black Octopus Sound presents the first sample pack in the Wicked Drum series. Wicked Drum Hits is a tasty selection of over 400 finely crafted drum one shots, perfect for many genres of music including dubstep, drum and bass, glitch hop, trap, electro, big room, and much more. Al of these sounds are crafted by producers with years of professional expertise, and will fit in your mixes with little to no processing added. Choose from either a kick with a sharp transient, tuned body, or layer them together to create your own. The snares are designed with maximum impact in mind and hit with a brute force. An additional 25 snare tails are included which allows you to really fine tune your sounds to your exact liking. Top this off with some hi hats, impacts, cymbals, toms, and a few risers and you’ve got everything you need to make huge sounding beats. Getting good drums is essential for creating a good mix and we have made that step much easier with Wicked Drum Hits.

I'm curious man, how do you go about creating your sample packs?

It really depends on the pack, but usually once I have an idea in mind for a pack I start researching the sounds in tracks that I like to get a feel for what is out there and what tracks have the coolest sounds (to me).  Then I use the many years of sound design techniques that I've learned over years and years from hired projects and try to develop some templates and techniques that I can use and re-use for specific sounds.  I have different techniques for each sound which range from pure synthesis to recorded foley manipulation (for example kicks are mostly synthesized in Harmor, and the FX chain is extremely important).  I've been planning a course for a while to share some of my techniques and hope to do some free youtube tutorials as well once I have some free time (which could be never lol)

paid packs:

black octopus monster kicks

Thanks for compliments!  It's very rewarding to see Monster Kicks getting mentioned so much in favorite kick pack threads.  I'm working hard on Leviathan 2 at the moment which will feature many kicks of the same style so if you have any requests for certain types of kicks for that pack please let me know!

All of these sounds are royalty free to use in your own commercial productions.

so i download the basement freak funk legends pack and I noticed you had samples and riffs from well known players such as Miles Davis. Just wondering how are these royalty free?

thanks anyway for the samples, they do sound good

Good question!  If only we could have a Miles Davis & Stevie Wonder sample pack.

Those loops are only just labelled as a similar style of those greats but are all actually recorded by Basement Freaks

Great to see the sounds getting use!

o what ? the leviathan free pack is 355 mb ?!

Sure is, definitely our biggest free pack

I really appreciate this since your sample packs seem to be very good but quite expensive and I can't afford them.
Thanks!

Thanks, precisely why we do the free sounds page as we know sometimes people don't have the extra budget for samples
