MUHAHA!!! you all fell into my trap!!!
no i will make shit tonnes of money from all your hard effort >:D
but seriously guys this has been super helpful ! :)
now for more of my own secrets since you've all been so helpful

now for some thumping uplifting kicks : what i love to do for the tail end of the kick is to take a sinewave put a moderately steep pitch envelope(steeper for housy kicks) ,some attack on the volume envelope and then delay the tracks a few milliseconds. after i learned this trick some of the big guys have actually been asking for my kicks :)

ahh sorry the first synth! :)

Mixing/Mastering / Re: EQ TIPS
« on: January 08, 2016, 01:01:53 am »
feel free to add this into the OP if you want... just a useful tip for beginners on EQ sweeping to find those pesky frequencies.

Set a bell curve with a high Q and headphones on (so you can hear the frequencies while you sweep) then, when you find the annoying one just flip the gain from really high to really low.

this is what i call "eqing with your ear" and has helped me alot in the last year of production

Nexus is great, fact you can just throw it in and some really well designed sounds available instantly, I use it a lot. The only downside is that it can be quite expensive once you start adding the expansion packs. I'd say its worth the investment only if you got the cash for it.
You're the reason i started second guessing my opinion  :-*

^ this is what im thinking about ive always felt like im cheating when i do this but i think its just a way of thinking thats counterproductive

Check out this beast by Output called Signal. My new fav synth!

I just picked up Exhale from output and Signal is definitely next on my list (along with NI's Prism, and Monark)

My top 3 secret weapons at the moment are Synth1, ableton's Operator, and Sampler.

Sampler is pretty much my best friend.
these all are pretty much universial tools . i was meaning something you had too dig deep or found by watching a video with a wizard in the studio.  :P

You're right.  ::) Those are probably just my most used.

Secret weapons then:
The Mangle, a really fantastic granular synth.
Crystal, subtractive + FM
TyrellN6, amazing softsynth based off of the Juno 60
I use one of these in probably 80% of my tracks.

Now thats what im talking about

ok being a low to semi succesful producer now for a few years it has come to my attention that no vst has suffered as much controversy as reFX' Nexus.
yes it is basically just a multilayered sampler but as a musician vs tech geek does that really matter?.
i use it very rearly though i do have it but mostly extra pad layers. but i think its solely because of the stigma that has been surrounding it over the years.
is it the easy way out or is it a vible tool to get that extra mile ?

lovely and yes the sidechain is a bit too heavy , less ratio and release
but the best thing is that the waveform actually looks like a cigarette with a mouthpiece

OH Btw:
JJP Vocals (Part of waves)
there is a slider within the Plugin Called "Magic" and its really what it does turns any vocal up a notch imo :)

Ableton has a "Hip Hop Sub Bass" preset which I've found is heavy as hell. Great for getting a good pump in your song, if you set the decay right.
An instrument rack?

Hey guys and gals!
I was wondering if you were ballsy enough to share some of the plugins that define your sound or you use frequently to get some specific sounds .
Ill start

Maserati gti guitar compressor

This is my mothership.
I use this on leads and basses in almost all of my productions (i later found out that eric prydz is really fond of it aswell) this really makes my sounds come alive and makes them stand out nicely in the mix

Bbe sonic maximizer

Mostly use this on my leads to makem them crispier and more powerfull. This can make tinny plucks really stand on their own and heavy synths really shine.

Static phasers

I often use this to make sawy basses get a unique character and even stabby synths to sound experimental

Now what do you guys use ?
