Sound Design / Basslines like this? (Electro/Trance)
« on: February 21, 2016, 09:49:54 pm »
I can write melodies and musical drops all day but still struggle to get really nice tight punchy bass lines.

https://youtu.be/I3mzEpdJhak?list=RD4bwjlC_aIwk

Love alot of Norin & Rads stuff.

Sounds like its a bunch of samples put together, sounds like theres some sort of wobble on the sub but hard to hear.

Anyone whos better at this kind of stuff got any tips?

Just to add on that I would definitely recommend the i7 over the i5 for music production, as they have Hyper Threading which adds an additional 4 virtual cores that most DAWs can take advantage of.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys.

Gonna have a play with bigwig and FL and see which I click with :D

Will also see if I can get some fixes for Logic in the mean time.

Theres an OSX compiler now for Delphi, hence why imagine-line are now giving it a shot.

As FL studio is written in Delphi, there's no chance to have a native OSX version until Image-Line remake it in other language such as C++

I'm open to any workflow, I even like the look of FL studio, looks super fun!

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Looking to switch to a new DAW from Logic
« on: January 09, 2016, 12:54:02 pm »
Hey Folks,

I'm looking to switch to a new DAW from Logic. It's severed me well over the last 5 years but lately there are so many GUI performance bugs with El Capitan & Yosemite its driving me up the wall, and apple don't seem to be doing anything about it so I've had enough.

Currently running dual boot on a Hackintosh so have access to either Windows or Mac.

A native version of FL is currently in development for mac. Its in it's Alpha phase. Looks very promising, no more crossover/wine ports!

Sound Design / Re: Vocal pitching?

I agree, Logics build in pitch shifting is awful.

This is by far the best pitch shifter out there (Cubase & Ableton base theirs on the same algorithm)

zplane Elastique Pitch

I use it all the time.

Nexus is great, fact you can just throw it in and some really well designed sounds available instantly, I use it a lot. The only downside is that it can be quite expensive once you start adding the expansion packs. I'd say its worth the investment only if you got the cash for it.

Sound Design / Virus Ti Wavetables for Serum
« on: January 07, 2016, 08:36:07 pm »
I saw this posted up a few months back so thought I'd share.

Full pack of all 99 recorded wave tables from the Virus Ti2

http://www.mediafire.com/download/go9294o01tu7p41/AC+Virus+TI2+Wavetables.zip

Make a folder in your Serum "Tables" folder, Call it Virus Ti or something and copy these in.

Hypersaws galore!

This is something I've been doing for a while now and it's greatly improved my mixes.

NOTE: This is for mix control as not the "Ducking effect" (I recommend something like LFO tool for that)

A lot of people tend to use their kicks to trigger their side-chains, which works great in some cases but the tail of the kick often leads to it going over the top and loosing a lot of the sound.

I've attached a really tight "Tap" which I use as the trigger for my side-chain, it has no tail at all and makes all the difference.

Here are my compressor settings.

I use this a lot of my sounds;

Lead Bus
Bass Bus
Pads

Anything thats prominent in the track and going over a beat.

Give it a try and see how your mix turns out, your kick should really start to punch through nicely.

Here's one of my tracks that I've applied this technique.

Hope it helps ;D
