I originally started with zeta and massive but now I usually do Massive and then samplers (harmor or FL sampler). Depends on what I'm doing

Started out with typical Massive. But 4 years using it and I can make basically anything I want to now and I still love it.

Started out on Massive because there are so many damn tutorials for it and Serum didn't exist at the time.
At this point Serum is probably your best bet. It's replacing Massive in a massive (heh) way.
It's only over when you give up.

I started with the stock synths that came with Cubase. I hadn't gotten any other synths at the time so I had to learn to use what I had. Retrologue sounds pretty decent but felt a bit restrictive for more interesting sound design.

I started out with a whole bunch of synths in FL. I remember using Harmless and Poizone a lot because they were simple enough for me to understand and their presets were nice. :p
Nowadays I just use Harmor and Sytrus, though I really should invest in something like Massive soon...

I started out with Serum. I saw some PluginGuru stuff on YouTube and was impressed with it, so I jumped on it, and fooling around with it is really fun. I am by no means an expert with it, but it's really easy and fun to use. The wavetable oscillators are the most in depth I've seen thus far, and you can really make some cool bass sounds with it.

There's some shit like mathematical stuff when calculating waveforms that cause my mind to blue screen, but they're not entirely necessary. You can enter a formula to draw a specific waveform and all that. Really posh, but I don't understand it.

And this may be redundant, but I also have Omnisphere 2, which is my favorite VST synth by far. You can record yourself taking a shit and turn it into something completely beautiful and entrancing. $500 price tag though.
Yes I'm a fukkin Pokémon fan in case you'd not gathered that.

the first synth that i got the hang on real quick ? that'd be 3xosc. it's just 3 oscillator with basic tweaks.
but the first one would be WASP (hehe if you use fl you'd know dat)

started with ogun, the stock plugin in fl studio. once I found out I could get third party plugins I just looked up the most popular at the time which were massive and sylenth

started with Oatmeal

cause it had an easier gui.

Then I moved to ZynAddSubFx

cause it's native on LMMS. I haven't moved to other's cause you can do a whole lot more with it than Massive or Harmor.

when arranging i only use a basic 3 osc. when sound designing i kinda jump around from sylenth to serum to harmless to harmor. no longer using massive though that shit hates me and i hates him too

Reason 2.5
My uncle had a cracked copy on cd and he thought i might like it as i was getting more into making music.
I installed it,fucked with it for a few months, made a few sketches but could never finish anything because i did not know anything of music theory.
Then a few years passed and i felt again the urge to make electronic music so i got reason 4 (i think )and started again this time with some music theory backround.
Made a few tracks then felt limited and move to reaper. The rest is history.

I love how virtual instrments are starting to have a history line. Heritage, like HW synths.
...becouse before Sylenth was so cool, Vanguard was in his place. ...and before Vanguard, there was a V-Station. That's what I started with. So nostalgic I had to buy it back few months ago. :D

I'm kinda mad I haven't discovered Massive properly back then. ...becouse it had much greater possibilities and it was probably used by much more people. (= more people to learn from) It's still strongly holding up today, though.
"Earth is round right? Look at it from right angle and you'll be always on top of the world."
...but don't overdo it, because that's called being a d***k.
