about verification criteria
« on: January 08, 2016, 03:40:47 am »
We've been trying to come up with a quantifiable system for how we decide who gets verified, but to no avail. The problems we have are these:

1. We can't make it about how many followers you have, because there are artists who have acclaim, but not a lot of followers
2. We can't make it only about if you've been signed or have had releases, because there are acclaimed artists who have the respect of top industry people, but aren't necessarily signed yet.
3. For other industry people, like bloggers for example, it's extremely hard to say which blogs have notoriety and which ones don't.

For now it's going to have to be on a case by case basis, but this thread is for discussing what the criteria should be

I agree that it should definitely be case by case.

It's the best but you'll need a lot of time for that.

Here's what I think. There should be a section where an Artist can make a post if he thinks he is underrated and surely needs exposure by verification. While applying he can post links to his soundcloud or any other medium where we can listen his tracks. After a verification request is posted. All the verified members check his potential out and if they think he really has the potential ,they can contact Mat_Zo directly to get that artist verified.I know as of know there are not many verified artists around but Mat and Xilent can do the job. This can be get quite complicated if few or more verified members agree/disagree with the decision. In that case, the majority wins.Really Simple and Peer to Peer approach.Additionally we can keep a criteria to create a post in verification thread like "One should have successfully produced atleast 5 original songs" to apply .

In that case,I have completely misunderstood the concept of verification. So basically, verification is only for artists who are already established and not for the upcoming producers who have potential. Why would someone impersonate as other artist anyway? Not like there are special benefits for them.

My understanding of verification is that it was implemented to prevent people signing up pretending to be Porter, Skrillex, ect. I think if you get to the level of notoriety where people impersonating you would even be a possibility, maybe that user would benefit from verification. But even then, the forum would already know its them.

If someone impersonates you they could say things that reflect poorly on you, and that hurts your name. If you are a public figure, your name is very important to how you make a living, and so sites offer verification as a service to help public figures not have their names trashed. There are both litigious and ethical reasons why the sites do this.

Case by case, there's a lot of members here that almost every electronic producer knows, at least by the name, so this guys that are influence and have the risk of have fakes, must have the verification account.

Can't tell you why exactly, but to be fair someone took the username "Porter Robinson" within like the first hour of making the forum lol.
~And so he took his pain & turned it into something beautiful. Something that people could connect to.
