weird plugins you like?
« on: February 02, 2017, 01:57:09 am »
so a lot of people know about plugins like Massive, Serum, OTT, Nexus, stuff like that. what are some hidden gem you've found? synths, effects, w/e.

i was looking around on KVR and i found this really goofy one, "mykazoo," that's 90% a joke, but i loaded on a bunch of processing and got some pretty cool sounds layering it with other stuff. another one, "doppler dome," simulates the doppler effect (things changing in pitch as they move away). you can use it for both natural effects, and use it in greater doses to make weird detune effects.

and for practical effects, ive been enjoying the FerricTDS saturator. it's a nice, soft tape saturator that adds nice harmonics. what about y'all?

I'm in love with bitcrusher plugins, specifically CMT Bitcrusher and TAL Bitcrusher. Bitcrushing can completely transform a sound and I know artists like K?D use it heavily on their sounds. Both are free, CMT sounds better and is easier to use imo while TAL offers more flexibility.

I also recently found this cool one called SQ8L that has a lot of cool presets: http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?id=327

Eh well listening to them side by side now, there's not really a difference. But that's after having to adjust a couple settings on the TAL, CMT has a cleaner sound right from the start (I guess that's why I had the misconception). So I would say it's more about whether you prefer ease of use or flexibility with your settings.

theres a nice plugin from xfer called DJM filter that helps a lot for automation and make it fun cause it acts like a pioneer CDJ filter

other than that, i'm still loving fab filter, massive and spire

Automatic and random chop and regroove audio plugin.
It's free.

Put it at the end of your chain and record the output. It's that simple. Of course, you can tweak it as much as you'd like for varying results.

Mostly for rhythmic content, though I've had surprising results with different types of content.

There are some cheeky little plugins from a company called Klevgrand I still haven't found a practical use for, but I enjoy them:

Jussi - a synth meant to imitate the human voice, but it does so very poorly and it sounds silly

Svep - their free chorus/flanging/phasing plugin.

Squashit - a really aggressive multiband distortion unit. I still need to figure out how this one works.

All their plugins are super affordable, with the most expensive clocking in at $50. Definitely worth checking out!

yesss Apeidon, 'therapy' and all of de La Mancha's plugins are so fun to mess around with. they have another one called "bent" that takes a lot of finagling but adds a really interesting glitchiness to sounds that ive not heard elsewhere.

and Mat, that plugin is crazy woah, definitely going to need to play with it more!
