In this order:

Melody > Chord Progression > Arranging > Drums > FX fills > Mixing > Mastering > Sound Design

For me, at the moment:

Sound Design > Chord Progression > Melody > Drums > Arranging > FX fills > Mixing > Mastering

Of course there's overlap between many of these, and usually I enjoy whatever I happen to succeed in.

When things work the way I want them to.

Not kidding. Sometimes that's sound design. Sometimes it's arrangement. Sometimes it's melody writing. Sometimes everything goes to crap and I put it down and come back the next day.

Writing the chord progression and then proceeding to fill it out by choosing the instrumentation.

Arranging & Mixing are my least favorite because it's where I get stuck the most.

Layering drums. Creating bass patches. Writing bass lines
Josh Huval: Honestly, the guys who are making good art are spending their time making it.

Arranging > Progressions > Melody > Mixing & Mastering > Drums > Sound Design > FX fill
