Slack Channel?
« on: April 21, 2016, 10:35:47 pm »
Would anyone be interested in creating a Slack Channel for people on this forum? That way we could all talk to each other in real time and I feel it would enhance the community more! It is up to Matt if he would like to start it so that he could be the admin and run it however he wants. I just feel it would be a very helpful tool for people to connect with one another on deeper level! What do you guys think?

For those of you who are not familiar with Slack:
https://slack.com/

It would look like this, but the different rooms would be music production related:

I think this might be useful. However I'm just a regular member, but if an admin / mod gives this green light, then this could be very useful.

I had proposed a linked chat room earlier and it brought up a big debate; some people think it will detract from the activity on here (but let's be honest; we have a solid core of about 45-50 people who will post regardless of what's going on), and some like myself think it'll be really valuable.

I'm all in favor of it; I just don't know if we could get everyone on board.

I like this idea, however I think it would be nice if it was moderated to keep inactive people out. The TPF skype group already has over 30 people, but hardly any chatting going. The problem is only a few people ever actually type at all. It feels pointless to say anything, because you are really talking to 30 lurkers and you might get 1 response if you are lucky. A chat group should be more responsive than posting on the forum, not the other way around.

That's one of the pitfalls of skype, in my opinion. Slack (and services like Discord) is much closer to the original IRC style of chatroom, which encourages a bit more active engagement and has better administrative tools.

Would it be possible to live stream audio to a chatroom? Meaning, everyone could stream their tracks instead of posting soundcloud/drive links. Does anyone know if there is a client/program that will do this?

I live on Slack for work.. This needs to happen!

c'mon mods! (let me know if you need anything, I'm the slack admin for my company and I've written a few rad bots too)
The music industry is just a giant fail machine. There are way more broken dreams and failed artists then there are successes to speak of. Therefore, its easy to say the successes are the anomaly and the failure is the product.

Looks like there are a lot of people that would be interested in the channel! Perhaps I will just create one and if the admins have an issue with it I'll delete the account.

Okay I have created a slack channel called https://producersforum.slack.com!

If you want to join send an email to samshihmusic@gmail.com and I will add you to the group. The purpose of the channel will just be for some real-time discussion and to just interface with people on another level.

Once again if the admins are not happy with this channel I will delete it.

I have added you guys to the channel!

Also, I created a simple heroku app so that if anyone else wants to join, they can just type in their email address and get instantly invited. Don't share this with anyone outside of the forum though!
