Mixing/Mastering / Re: Dimensional Mixing
« on: May 19, 2017, 10:53:28 pm »
The one rule that always works for me is thinking of my drums in terms of 'mics'. For every drum I'll have two channels pretending to be the mics, one for the fundamentals and one for the harmonics. I usually use moderate processing on the fundamentals, and compress and sharpen the harmonics.

You can control how much an element stands out in a mix by how flat or dynamic it is. If something is in the background of a mix, it helps to make it more flat to stand out. The elements in the foreground should have more dynamics but controlled so it doesn't overpower the other elements. You create a believable sonic landscape the same way you create a believable landscape painting.

It's a simplified version of valhalla ubermod, which is a delay plugin with some extraordinary capabilities

I don't use it for it's adaptive capabilities but it has a nice transient shaper. I don't like the idea of a plugin making mixing decisions for me

dfx buffer override

you can get it here

You could use saturn, if you set the channel mode to mid/side and attach an envelope follower to the mid/side knob (whats usually the pan)

I'll start it off with one I know I've posted before but it's a great one (probably the best imo):

What's your favourite?

Everyone is a professional music listener

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: What Makes Music Worth Your Time?
« on: February 16, 2016, 05:31:24 am »
A lot of professional musicians downplay luck, but it's a matter of fact that some people work their arses off and get no where in the industry. The only way to make it worth your time is if making music truely enriches your life regardless off success. When I made this forum I wanted this to be a place where people could share that joy of creation for creation's sake without worrying about success. If you're able to make music (or any art for that matter) and you love doing it, even if it's in your spare time, you're already successful. I believe in the therapeutic nature of art in general, creating something makes you feel good, relieves stress and just enriches other aspects of your life.

Dude, we're just giving ideas. The app is a good one.

I think it's a crappy idea, just like most apps are. I'm not saying that aggressively, by the way, I mean it calmly as an objective fact. Every little extra thing you can do on your phone is another thing you WILL do on your phone, and this will keep you on your phone instead of making music.

An app is actually a great idea and if any app developer is reading please get in touch.

Nadav, you forget that the majority of producers have smart phones and a lot of them tend to move around and want access to this pool of knowledge when they're away from their desks.

Technically I was writing music since I was 8 so 18 years, and I'm still sub-par to where I want to be. There's no such thing as pure talent, only fucking hard work

Nik Roos from Noisia, but last year I finally had the honour of doing so for 2 days. I would still like to spend 10,000 more hours in that studio
