I use the Ableton Live orchestral strings pack, it's super good (and free) if you have Live.

I had a tascam dr-05 and I had tons of fun with it but then it just stopped working(?) which sucks but honestly my phone is good enough. I do feel less inclined to record with my phone though because it's not made for that, and when I was carrying my field recorder with me I was pushed more towards recording a bunch of stuff.

Like the flute sound in Where Are U Now is apparently just his voice, not entirely sure on that one though.

You can make a flute sound from a lot of different sources using a comb filter/delays.
It is! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mY5FNRh0h4
(sidenote: expensive sounds)

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: What is your DAW template?
« on: January 08, 2016, 06:47:01 pm »
My ableton template is super basic (just a drum rack which i usually end up deleting) but the real power comes from track defaults, my default audio track is set to -7 dB and i have an eq 8 on it with a high pass for quickly cutting the bass on sounds that don't need them. It's extremely helpful for mixing.

I started with Ableton and I love it, my main issue with it is that it's suuuper expensive (extremely jealous of you FL people with your lifetime updates). I've tried other DAWs and enjoyed them for different reasons but I'm so used to working in Ableton that i never actually get anything done in other DAWs.

Any discussion of analog gear (synths, effects, guitar pedals, things like that) can be posted here
I have a Korg Monotron Delay ($50 usd) and a Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator Rythm ($60 usd) and I absolutely love them.

Really like this, but it sounds like you left the sub in some sounds that didn't need it which created clashing bass. arrangement is super good though.

I think the arp in the drop is too loud, but other than that it's a pretty good track!

This is really good! and as to uk hardcore people, Tanuki is on here!

First things I noticed were that there's way too much white noise floating around during the drop and that the kick has like no sub. If you fix those issues you're well on you way to a sick beat my friend!

The first synth you hear in the drop is super awesome, not a huge fan of the weird percussiony things in between the big chords though.

I like to send audio through my korg monotron delay with a super short decay time, that normally messes it up pretty good.

I've been looking at the monotron, seems pretty useful considering the price. would u recommend?
Yes definitely, it's so dang small that I take it pretty much everywhere with me and I love it.
