Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Melody Scale (Progressive Trance)
« on: August 10, 2017, 08:53:43 pm »
In the context, you're getting at, What they're doing seems to be on a minor scale of some kind. what key it is I couldn't tell you, but from what you're looking for the key shouldn't really matter. But if you're trying to imitate the melodic style you should be worrying about rhythm and the position of notes as well.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Weekly Question #1
« on: August 10, 2017, 08:46:28 pm »
Question: What is your opinion on "Lazy Plunderphonics/Sampling?"

ie. music like vaporwave or future funk, where they take another song and simply slow, speed up, pitch up, down. etc.

What are your opinions on the ethics and creativity of plunderphonics/sampling?

Btw, I'm also going to be doing an interesting question like this on here! I would really love to hear what you guys think about going on-s that involve you all and the community!

So first, you should no longer be using reverbnation as your primary music association, and I'm saying this before I even got the chance to listen to the beats. I say this because Reverbnation is not where people get discovered. You can keep your Reverbnation, the more websites with your music, the better. Reverbnation is more meant for bands instead of producers and djs, and the only reason you see any bigger artists on there is because their labels or marketing agent is just covering all their grounds and putting them music on sale on every website they can. OKAY, with that out of the way.

It's a good idea to move away from "TranZParentBeatZ". I'm going to be blunt, that's just a terrible name, especially with all the z's, and this is coming from a guy with a z in their pseudonym. Anyway, I'd actually say On Q is a lot better, and people within the music and DJ community are likely to get the joke, but as referring to your name, people who don't know are obviously not going to get that. When renaming yourself there are a couple things you need to keep in mind.

1. Is the name something people will remember. Without the music, can the name stand on its own, and with the music, does it stand higher? Think catchy, unique, or speaks to your character. And when I say unique, that doesn't mean change some letters, add a number around (which is what I did with this pseudonym, and regret it, Next one won't be as bad.) Unique means what does the name say about how clever or creative you were when thinking of the name.

2. Can the name be brandable? This one is important in that, if you haven't noticed, People really dig persona's that have character, a name that can play the part it claims to play.

3. This one is more of a final checkpoint before you make the decision. If you saw your name without knowing who you are, would you listen to it?

That being said, I think On Q is pretty clever, sounds nice, and could possibly get the attention of anybody interesting in djing, but it also suggests that you are more DJ than producer since a cue button is more commonly a DJ tool, If you tend DJ, then maybe that's okay for you. Once again, still haven't listened to any of your music, as my internet is trying to kill itself. Guessing from your original name, most of what is on there is Hip-Hop/Hard Trap with a lot of "creepy" minor pluck arpeggios. maybe some basic piano and choir chords.
(None of that is meant as negative, but more of just hoping I've made the right decisions of what I've said here based on what I'm guessing. Which is rare for me seeing as I tend not to be the assuming type.)

This is a really cool thing for you guys to do. I actually personally tried organizing a similar kind of community, but I personally just didn't have the time or resources, but this is really cool all the same, I'm going to have to check it out.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Underrated?
« on: April 26, 2017, 07:32:30 pm »
So I'm wondering, what are some sample packs, plugins, software, or gear you use that you feel deserves more credit, should be more popular, or just you think it deserves a shoutout?

Me personally, recently it's been two different plugins:
  • Plogue's AlterEgo. It's like a good vocaloid replacement but it works much better for those of us who like to play melodies live instead of placing notes.
  • And secondly, Polyverse Manipulator. A lot of producers have heard of it at this point, but no one is using it because (I guess) the price. While it is kind of expensive, I personally love this thing as it as opened me to create some unique effects, rhythms, and even some really cool melodies.

So what are yours?
