Mixing/Mastering / Layering
« on: December 10, 2017, 05:01:31 pm »
first it depends on your melody? is it a banging drop or is it just a breakdown melody?

if its a banging drop for eg, first you need a good super saw, EQ, compression, add some reverb, etc - sidechaining

for layering, some tips are

- the new sound to move it up/down an octave to cover different frequencies
- EQ is important if to cut some of the lows or highs of the conflicting sound
- adding white noise
- adding a pluck to a saw
- creating a group with bus reverb and delay and make adjustments to volume

It is normal, have a look at your tracks and look at your strengths and weaknesses

If its melody, try work on that, read chord progressions etc or if its sound design work on that
watch tutorials, have a look at what the pros are doing, ask questions, ask for feedback

experience is the most important thing, keep going man, it took me nearly 6-7 years to get my first record deal

you need to low cut around the 120hz mark the bass, as bass and kick are in same range

Sound Design / Re: How to make weird Trap Synths (PLEASE HELP!)
« on: March 23, 2017, 05:49:56 am »
the best advice is to download trap preset packs from good brands out there and copy them,

vandalism, freshly squeezed, alonso sound, etc

the only way to get better at sound design is to spend time on it and do it, practice man!!

it starts with the oscilators to get the sound, so try get close to it as possible at the beginning ,learn to use the filters, ADSR, detune, FX etc, its good stuff

Presets will always be presets man, its the best to learn how to make and shape sounds and study synthesis

or you can get great at tweaking presets....

Also its best to use equipment or software that you KNOW and like, so maybe by your thinking you like the hardware

The best way is to copy presets and then try and go beyond and further than the preset.

theres so many aspects

id split up the days of the week with differnt avenues

such as for monday for sound design, tuesday for drum patterns, wednesday for chords and melody, etc, then learning mixing, mastering, then after you can change up
just sharpen the blade each day man, try talk and get closer with other producers who achieved something, some of them give great advice and can help out and read/watch lots of tutorials, try find out your strengths and weaknesses

its took me nearly 5/6 years to get my first release

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: So I hired a ghost producer
« on: February 05, 2017, 12:43:47 am »
dude! are you alright, dont trust random guys on the internet, and never pay upfront, not unless he has sent you some of the work first back so you know he is trustworthy

I've worked with other producers and it has turned out well enough, there are great producers out there, you just didnt meet a good one.

be careful before doing anything in music, and ask your close people before doing it

dont beat yourself up, its not cheating and ont give up, its just a bad lesson learnt and experience gained

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Does anyone still use Nexus 2 anymore?
« on: February 04, 2017, 09:22:53 am »
yes lots of people still use nexus, the pads or piano are nice for trance and the sounds are quick for inspiration but if you want to do your own sound design, it would be better to get the usual massive, spire, sylenth stuff

im not sure about trap but the above synths have good preset packs to get started, try vandalism for starters

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: weird plugins you like?
« on: February 02, 2017, 10:18:08 am »
theres a nice plugin from xfer called DJM filter that helps a lot for automation and make it fun cause it acts like a pioneer CDJ filter

other than that, i'm still loving fab filter, massive and spire

EQ, compression, good mixing, having the right sounds, its just all of the basic things done very well , you need that wall of sound, each piece works together to get it..

and all of the pop songs are mastered for radio specially beforehand i believe

study study study!
