I used to be pretty active on this community and took a brief hiatus, I'm back though and would love to see what you guys think of this track:

I've spent a lot of time getting better at mastering and mixing and decided to hit a reboot on my sc and upload much more professional tracks from here on out. Any criticisms are welcome!

Sound Design / completely cutting out certain frequencies
« on: May 11, 2016, 07:12:07 pm »
Hi guys, noob here.
For the longest time I thought by eqing I was cutting out unwanted frequencies completely.
I realized today that was not the case and was wondering if I could be either configuring the equalizer wrong or if I need to use a specific plugin to do this. I think I want something with a really steep slope, removing unwanted frequencies completely if that is even possible. I first looked into engineer's filter but they only have 32 bit versions, which don't work on my 64bit version of ableton. I've messed around with filters but the unwanted frequencies still bleed through.
Picture is attached to show you an example, the spectrum analyzer after the EQ shows the higher frequencies still coming through after cutting them out.
Thanks guys!

Boy that title is a mouthful. Like the description on the track says, this will be my first completed track with vocals from https://soundcloud.com/emberisland.
I appreciate any feedback you have for me! Happy Tuesday!

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Is it done yet?
« on: March 16, 2016, 11:58:10 pm »
How do you guys know when your tracks are finished? Is it simply an "a ha" moment or do you guys settle with "this is good enough, next track".
For me one of the biggest problem I think is knowing when to stop and questioning my judgement in deciding if it is appropriate to leave the track as is. Sure its done when it sounds good to you as the creator but I never have gotten to a point where I was 100% satisfied with what I was creating. It has never felt "done", so is this simply a matter of my production has not caught up to my standards and that for the time being I should just keep writing tracks until one day production level meets my standards? If so how do you get over coping with the fact that you are uploading (if you upload them at all) mediocre tracks? The fact that I know its subpar production and that I am just adding to the junk online bothers me. This leads me to two solutions, either don't care and upload them because they would just sit on my harddrive space anyways and hope someone enjoys them or simply hoard all my tracks until one day they both production and standards levels are equal?

I know there is no right answer I just want to know your thought process, what bothers you and if you feel the same way.
Many questions that will hopefully provoke some insightful discussion, feel free to jump in anywhere!

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Experience with sub pacs?
« on: January 08, 2016, 05:38:52 pm »
Hi everyone,
I currently use a pair of yamaha hs8s and although they deliver incredible response above ~120 hz, anything below seems to be lacking.
Since I produce out of my bedroom, which is fairly small, buying a sub like the hs8s may do more damage than good because my room is not treated.
Which brings me to the sub pacs, I've seen my fair share of videos and so far the reviews seems to be overall positive. Just wanted to see if others have any thoughts or advice? Currently my work around is a spectrum analyzer to visualize these frequencies but that can only go so far.
