Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Who here needs some gear or software?
« on: March 25, 2016, 04:55:44 am »
You're not allowed to answer for yourself.

Nominate someone truly talented here who you feel has great talent.

A brother or sister who you think could benefit in their creative process.

A mic. Monitors. DAC. DAW. PLug-ins. Headphones. A Guitar. A kazoo. Bongos. Some acoustic treatment.

We can make it happen. I can make it happen.

Let's step it up.

R&A Graveyard / Forum Giveaways

I used to run some pro audio forums, and we gave away $30K worth of gear to members between 2002-2012.

Manufacturers are quite open to it, as it build good relationships.

If TPF is up for it, I could even arrange the first set of prizes.

TOF could do drawings and/or  song/remix contests.

We say ye, people?

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Music Recording Do's and Don'ts

I recently published an article, Music Recording Do's and Don'ts, that was spawned in a topic in Reddit.

It's not the conventional list.

What more could you add to the list?

I've been engineering and reviewing pro audio products for many years.

Here's  a monitor that seems custom-made for EDM. I just published a review.

R&A Graveyard / Posts disappearing? Anyone else
« on: January 12, 2016, 01:02:16 am »
I'd made a few posts about an hour ago, plus up loaded an avi pic.

I came back just now, and 4-5 recent posts were missing, as well as the avi pic I'd uploaded.

Anyone else missing recent posts?

Oblique Strategies originated as a deck of cards. They've been a popular tool for use in recording sessions, creative projects, and problem solving. Like throwing a Zen wrench into your process. Intended as an aid to boosting creativity, each card contains a phrase or cryptic remark which can be used to break a deadlock or dilemma situation. Whenever you're stuck you draw a card and ponder how it applies to your situation.

"These cards evolved from separate observations of the principles underlying what we were doing. Sometimes they were recognised in retrospect (intellect catching up with intuition), sometimes they were identified as they were happening, sometimes they were formulated. They can be used as a pack, or by drawing a single card from the shuffled pack when a dilemma occurs in a working situation. In this case the card is trusted even if its appropriateness is quite unclear."

This is a great primer on EQ. Refer to it often. It will become your friend.

You Might Like... / David Bowie - Blackstar - Full Album

"Blackstar (stylised as ★) is the twenty-fifth and final studio album by English musician David Bowie. It was released on 8 January 2016, the date of Bowie's 69th birthday and two days before his death..."

Cocteau Twins were some serious pioneers of dream pop, ethereal wave, post-rock, and influenced a lot of artists.

Lots of great sound design and textures in their work.

Fuck it. Here's one more. Cocteau Twins - Ella Megablast Burls Forever

This stuff is dreamy.

R&A Graveyard / A forum for analog gear - mics, preamps, monitors, etc.

There's a forum for Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear

But it really downplays hardware "gear."

A forum for everything that's not software and computer related.

ADCs, DACs, Interfaces, Cables, Stands, Acoustic Panels and Treatment, Headphones, Mics, Mic Pres, Rack Gear, Studio Monitors, Guitars, Basses, Drums, Keyboard, Hardware Synths...

As soft as we wanna be, and a lot of us are, there's still hard that everyone needs. Software has yet to replace, at least fully,  mics, monitors, the room, etc..

I've really been digging this band. They really run a big range of music, from quirky ambient to 90s R&B to 80s pop.

They're dropping a new album in February, and have released a couple of tracks off it in the last few weeks.
