Title: Bug with posting replies
Post by: Bertie South on January 20, 2016, 05:23:16 pm
If like me you enjoy laboring over long, flowery replies and tweaking them until they're just right, something fucky happens with the formatting if you fiddle with your message too much. When you go to post/preview your message, a chunk is missing from the bottom, and in its place is a load of underscores or something, and a bunch of [size] close tags. S'pose I should have grabbed a screen cap the last time it happened.. will post one up if it happens again.

The reply box occasionally does other weird things, like if you add in a blank line but later remove it, all the text below shrinks.

Correction.. it's not a load of underscores, it just resizes your reply to like 0.001pt or something

Hi!

I tried to reproduce your problem, but couldn't make it happen on my end. We changed the forum's hosting and a lot of server configuration in the past week, so it's possible it had a good impact on the issue. Please be sure to let us know and post a screenshot if it happens again though. :)

Hello,

Just fyi I've tested this on Safari and Chrome with the same results. I'm not sure if these issues affect Quick reply or not.

Can't seem to upload screenshots. I cut and pasted half a line from one place in my reply to another, and when I hit preview, the bit of text I moved had gone all tiny.

Here's how to replicate the second issue:

Enter a blank line.
Type something on the next line, then go back to the beginning of the line and hit backspace.

Reply box and preview window then look something like the attached.

Also any time I post, my blank lines become two blank lines.

Cheers!

Also: if your post with attachments fails, when you try to reply again the page still registers that you have an attachment, but because the attachment option is hidden, you don't see it. So your attempt to post something sans attachment also fails and you lose your reply. Again  :'(

I followed your instructions precisely (OSX Safari + Chrome) and still can't reproduce the issue about the font size :( I'm starting to wonder if it could have something to do with a browser extension you're using?

Does it happen with Chrome in incognito mode? (incognito mode disables all browser extensions by default, so it's a good test platform).

One thing to know is we're also looking into migrating the forum software from SMF to MyBB, so if we can't get your problem fixed with the current forum platform, there's a good chance moving over will fix it (and hopefully not bring a slew of other problems to replace the first one, but if that happens, we'll definitely deal with them as they come).

Done some more fiddling.. the culprit is JavaScript. Disabling it fixes the problem in Safari and Chrome. Thanks for the help though!

I run with Javascript activated in my browsers and it's fine, so the problem is probably a bit deeper (and again, some extensions have an unknown tendency to mess with things, so you always need to be careful what you run with).

In any case, I'm happy you you found a solution. :)
