For the time being, we're letting people connect on other parts of the forum and gain some mutual respect, and then if people want to collab they can always DM each other. We're just afraid of a section like this becoming too impractical, cus collabing is a very private thing between two or more producers who've already spent time getting familiar with eachother's methods and ideas.

This makes sense, but it can be difficult to connect on a forum like you say without a general discussion / offtopic / general producing forum section.

Agreed. IMO collabing doesn't always have to be a private thing, it could just be some mess around project where you guys can work on a song together and learn from each other. For my first collab, it was just some random guy I became friends with on skype and we ended up working on a project together, and I ended up learning a lot from him. We still never released it, it's basically just a completed song at this point that we can mess around with and try new things on. But I also agree with Mat, if you're actually trying to make a serious song with someone, a section like this might not be of much help. In most cases you do already know the person you are going to work with pretty well, and it isn't some random person you meet online. I'm sort of contradicting myself here, but the worst that can happen with a section like this is that it doesn't work out and you can delete it off the forum.

would posting a topic in the WIP section titled "Looking for Collaborator" or something like that be appropriate?
