Guys, thanks for these responses. I'm glad people are willing to open up and share.

I'm not able to smoke weed (or do other drugs for that matter) in my current job, so that's off the table.

I do, however, like to sip bourbon from time to time while producing.  I find it relaxes me, and like others, takes the "risk/worry/anxiety" aspect out of it, so there's more enjoyment and less self-criticism.  Obviously, alcohol (as with most drugs I imagine) gets to a point where there are diminishing returns, but I don't find myself in that position often.

A short anecdote.  I remember listening to 009 Soundsystem's "Dreamscape", aka the "theme song of youtube": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsTegvGDioc

The lyrics are kinda druggy, trippy, with religious/spiritual overtones.  When I listened to it, I was a bit conflicted TBH.  I am a religious person, so it was one of those weird deals where I thought, "is this okay to listen to?"  "could this be harmful?"  This may sound like nonsense to some of you, but I can't describe it - the song did (and still does to a certain degree) give me a "weird" feel.  Not sure if it is the chord progression, lyrics, both or what, but there's weirdness.

I asked a friend at the time who was into electronic music more than I was (My only real exposure was searching for "trance" on limewire..): is a lot of electronic music inspired by drugs?  He seemed to think that a lot of it was.  Don't know if this is accurate, but regardless, the topic still piques my curiosity to this day.

Keep the stories and the experiences coming people.  Thx.

Certain experiences that involve celebration or entertainment, will no doubt have a form of substance involved with the activity.

It's only when you need to get down to the nitty gritty, and figure stuff out is when there might be a problem when using the stuff.

But that can be nullified by having a good understanding of the principles that make up a subject.

What the substances do, like most of you know, is eventually deteriorate a part of what ever it is effecting that change of state.

You can't have something and not expect to have consequences. understanding the chemicals that make up that particular experience helps in your management, but it will only get you to that state. And only to that state.

I wouldn't take a "different view" as something that grand. Especially since it's a fleeting experience like the one on substances.

I would encourage people to find a more substantial way to the same realization.

I do use these substances as tools though, but only after enough self evaluation when i am sober. often times, the experience of the substance really has no meaning other than the fact that you were on a substance, and that was it. "it done changed your vision maaan." but rose tinted glasses aren't always the best for a general situation...

I'd rather have something useful for any thing and every thing, at some capacity. And that answer came to me being more sober than i was, at a certain point in time.
