When you transition between sections, you have to change the energy of the song. You can achieve this with drum fills to signal something is about to change. Hell, you can even use silence! Subtract or add elements to the last bar or so of the section, and the listener will immediately get ready for something new.

A lot of great ideas here!

This may just be an extension of what Guillotine and Dichotomy said, but a trick i've done in the past is making 5 or 6 different melodies / harmonies within one 8 bar loop.
Once i have an abundance of melodies and harmonies that all work together, I then break it down so that each section of the song only has 2 or 3 of the parts.
You can then mix and mash the sounds and melodies for each section in order to keep some variety to the track.

Does that make sense?

I'm new to the forum game and am loving all the feedback.
Thanks guys.
